HackiOS GitHub: the official HakiOS repositories, what is in them, and fake ones

Short answer: HackiOS, now officially named HakiOS, is open source on GitHub. The official organization is oosexgang and the main repository is oosexgang/hakios-xnu-kernel. Checked on 2026-11-05.

The official repositories

| Repository | What it is | | --------------------------------------------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | | hakios-xnu-kernel (formerly hackios-xnu-kernel) | Main repository: Apple's open-source XNU kernel ported to Qualcomm Android phones, with the boot loader, drivers, tools and the Metal driver in hakios-metal/. About 2.5k stars. | | hackios-xnu-userland | Retired. Its README only says the user space moved into userland/ in the main repository. | | hakios-uefi | The HakiOS UEFI boot loader. | | hakios-metal | Moved into the main repository; the Metal driver in C++. | | hakios-sm7325 | Device repository: POCO X5 Pro 5G (redwood, Snapdragon 778G). | | hakios-mt6768 | Device repository: Infinix Hot 20 (MediaTek mt6768). | | hackios-web | The website (Next.js), with docs in English, Russian, Ukrainian and Chinese. |

When you search "hackios github", Google often ranks the retired hackios-xnu-userland first. Its README just says "Moved"; the code lives in the main repository.

What is in the code, and what isn't

  • In it: the kernel port, the UEFI and U-Boot boot chain, xnuloader, drivers for touch, storage, GPU, audio, Wi-Fi and modem, and a configuration per device.
  • Not in it: iOS itself. The kernel can start the Darwin 16.5 user space, but you build that yourself from Apple's own firmware download. The project does not distribute iOS and there is no packaged installer.

How to start

The official docs offer four ways in, easiest first:

  1. Try it in QEMU. No phone needed. Follow the README on a Linux PC: it downloads Apple's iOS 16.5 firmware, builds the system image locally and opens iOS in a window, with the mouse acting as your finger.
  2. Run it on a phone. The POCO X5 Pro 5G boots it from RAM via fastboot; a reboot gives Android back.
  3. Use Metal. The window server draws through Metal on the Adreno GPU at about 100 to 118 fps for page swipes, not yet a steady 120.
  4. Bring your device. Make a device repository, boot with nothing of the phone's, then add drivers one by one.

Use a spare phone and back it up: it is a research project with no calls and no App Store.

Spotting fake repositories and downloads

  • The only official organization is oosexgang. Repositories called hackios under other accounts are forks or experiments (for example a research lab for the Pixel 8), not the official project.
  • There is no official APK, IPA or one-click flash package. Any packaged "HackiOS download" is not trustworthy.
  • Anything that wants payment, surveys or follows before giving you a link is a scam.

FAQ

Is HackiOS open source? Yes, at github.com/oosexgang/hakios-xnu-kernel.

Are HackiOS and HakiOS the same? Yes. The project was renamed HakiOS; the old repository name redirects.

Why is hackios-xnu-userland empty? The user space moved into userland/ in the main repository; the old one only keeps a pointer.

Can I download an iOS image from GitHub? No. You generate the iOS user space yourself from Apple's firmware.
